EMnify’s Mobile Core Network has been designed to manage the network selection from the network side in conjunction with the settings on the SIM: it has a global view on the available radio networks, their supported features and live network status, temporarily or permanently steering the SIMs away from ‘low signal quality’ networks to the best-performing ones (with the strongest signal).
The manual carrier switching can be done in two ways:
- Selecting the preferred operator in the device's menu
- By blacklisting other operators in the EUI or via the API
EUI Method:
On the Endpoints panel, after clicking on one of the endpoints, you can find the "Operator Blacklist" tab, which allows you to manage blacklisted operators with a simple menu, giving you the possibility to exclude MNOs from the standard coverage list.
To blacklist the operator, click the “Add Operator” button in the top right corner of the tab, select the operator from the drop-down list and click “Blacklist Operator” button:
Blacklist all operators available at your SIM's location except for the one you need and reboot the device if needed - the SIM will automatically connect to this operator.
The "Operator" list includes the name of all the operators, those EMnify can provide to customers and it is not dependent on customer's Tariff Profile, Rate Zones or Sim Version.
How does the sim behave with the blacklisted operator? If any of the operators from this list has been blacklisted, it means the device will still try to attach to this network and EMnify's system rejects the request for building the connectivity. If the operator is blacklisted, that does not mean, whether the endpoint will not try to attach at all.
