EMnify has recently launched eSIMs to quickly start evaluating our product on first signup. The Evaluation eSIM Profile is primarily intended to offer our customers the possibility to test immediately EMnify’s Services such as our Rest-API, OpenVPN, Cloud-Connect or the Data Streamer, while we ship you standard SIM cards.
Any evaluation account includes free credit valid for up to 100MB (depending on the country and network) or 60 days, whichever comes first. Due to this limitation, this product is not intended for consumer use (e.g. Youtube), as you would exhaust the credit within seconds. However, in case you exhaust the free credit, you can always upgrade to a production account (article)
The eSIM profile comes with some limitations in coverage and device support. Please read this article carefully.
IMPORTANT: It is a common mistake to refer to an embedded SIM (Also known as MFF2) as an eSIM. Please notice that this article is referred to eSIMs only. Our embedded SIMs (MFF2) are available with no restrictions. Please contact our Support team if you have any questions regarding SIM cards and form factors.

Do I need to configure anything to start using the eSIM?
Please follow the instructions available on the Portal. On the APN settings of your device, please set "em". No username or password is required.
For the first connection, you will require a Wifi connection, or the data service provided by your primary SIM.
The eSIM should be the primary or the secondary profile?
The eSIM should be selected as secondary as there is no support for voice calls.
How many eSIM profiles can I get? Can I reuse the eSIM on multiple phones?
The evaluation eSIM profiles are intended for testing purposes and for developers, therefore we can only provide one profile per account.
In case you want to reuse the eSIM profile, it must deleted first from the original device. Please notice that the eSIM profile can be reinstalled only once. Once you have reached the limit, you will not be able to get additional profiles and you will get an error message
What happens to the eSIM if I upgrade from an evaluation account to a customer account?
Your eSIM profile will be considered a production SIM, and therefore you will be charged with the tariff you have selected.

Due to the configuration of the evaluation eSIM Profile, we support the majority of our coverage, but not all the countries and networks are available. EMnify's full coverage list is available here.

Supported devices
Since we currently offer just the consumer eSIM with a QR to be downloaded by your device, not all devices support this eSIM type and even in some countries it may be disabled on devices which would normally support it.
Non-compatible devices:
- M2M / IoT devices require a push eSIM approach which we are working on providing, but the evaluation eSIM is currently not compatible with those types of devices
- Apple Watches are not compatible with our evaluation eSIMs
Compatible devices:
NOTE: Please remember to set "em" as the APN on your device. No username or password is required
