To get your devices online with emnify SIMs, follow the next steps:
1. Register your SIMs
| NOTE: As of July 2025, it is possible to automatically register your SIM cards and create devices when ordering SIMs in the SIM shop. If you have opted for automatic device creation, you may bypass this step and proceed directly to item 2. |
After your SIMs arrive, the next step is to register them. When you register a new SIM or SIM batch, you’ll have the option to automatically activate the SIM and create Connected Devices using the default settings.
1.1. Locate the BIC (Batch Identification Code)
Individual SIMs: The 16-digit BIC (Batch Identification Code) is on the upper right corner of the card shown as BIC1. It is used to register single SIMs.
SIM Batches (25, 500, etc.): The 16-digit BIC can be found on the packaging label and is denoted as BIC2.
1.2. Registration, activation and device creation
Please log in to the Emnify portal and select “Register your SIM cards” on the dashboard.
You may register individual SIM cards using their BIC1 code or register batches of SIM cards using the BIC2 code. Please note that if you have purchased a batch of SIM cards, registration must be completed using the BIC2 code exclusively.
After the SIM has been registered, you have the option to assign it to a device. This step is recommended as it is essential for connecting your devices to the network.
To create a device, please provide a name (maximum 45 characters) and assign a service and coverage policy. If you intend to use the device immediately, activate it. A monthly fee will be applied for each connected device. If you do not plan to use the device immediately, please select "leave disabled."
2. Insert the SIM into the Device
Insert the SIM card into your device (unless the device is already equipped with an embedded SIM), and power on the device.
3. Establish Network Connectivity
Once the device is powered on, two critical configuration changes must be made:
- Configure the APN as "em" to enable the device to connect to the EMnify network.
- Enable roaming.
Following these steps, the device will register to a network automatically (no PIN code entry is required). Upon successful registration, the connectivity status of your Connected Device in the EUI (under the “SIM” menu) will update to ATTACHED. SMS functionality will then be available.
Once your device has established a data session, the connectivity status will again change to "Online". Now the device is ready to send/receive data traffic.
